Main Activities/Duties/Responsibilities:

To identify pigmentation of automotive grade color standards and match those standards within the range of Refinish paint systems.  Efficiently manage laboratory workload while maximizing resources.

 
  1. Color Formulation – Through application of color theory, electronic tools (spectrophotometers, electronic microscopes, color software) incumbent will identify color problems in terms of pigmentation and effect pigment to match a color in Refinish paint technologies.
  2. Color Program Management – Manages multiple paint lines and workflow to ensure efficient throughput in the lab.  Must react to shifting priorities and complexities in a high volume lab environment.  Utilizes processes such as Kanban to maintain high level of lab productivity and achieve color goals.
  3. Paint System Alignment – Aligns various Refinish paint systems in color space relative to the OE standard and other PPG/Nexa paint lines.  Due to various paint technologies and distribution, this process insures color perception between product lines is transparent and consistent.
  4. Development of Self & Others – Must continually increase depth of knowledge in color theory, formulation and applications techniques, new pigmentations and new paint technologies.  Must develop understanding of business and customer needs as related to the color function.  Must share knowledge and experience among other formulators and color formulation interns.
REQUIRES:
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience color matching in paint technologies (Refinish a plus). 
  • Must demonstrate ability to see color properties and develop efficient/logical methodology to adjust formulations to achieve color match. 
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills and be familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint). 
  • Must be capable of working in a fast-paced, customer-driven lab environment with shifting priorities and workloads. 
  • Incumbent must be able to multi-task, work unsupervised, and be self-motivated. 
  • May be required to supervise production color lab activities and personnel.
