The major function of this position is to prepare laboratory quantities of electrocoat, apply the coatings and perform tests. This is for a more experienced candidate, where the electrocoat preparation and tests are conducted with minimal guidance of chemists or supervisor. The data generated is used to help fulfill the Technical Department’s major accountabilities: product development, formula cost reduction, and service to production. This is an experienced level position and most of the time will be spent on learning proper techniques and procedures from other experienced Development Techs, Chemists and Supervisors.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Technical Work - prepare laboratory quantities of paint, apply the coatings and perform tests, document results
  • Technical Administration - provide information such as test results, application parameters, etc. to Sales, customers and other departments as appropriate; use computer system for formula adjustment, costing and data management.
  • Lab Maintenance - support lab functions: equipment verification and maintenance, 5s, safety/housekeeping projects, etc.
Work Environment:
Shared lab and application equipment. Environmental conditions normally at room temperature. Should be able to manipulate liquid sample and raw material containers weighing up to 50 pounds. Will work with chemicals daily.
 
Equipment Utilized:
Small and medium-scale manufacturing equipment: scales, mixers, dispersion mills, balances, electrocoat rectifier, DOI/Gloss Meter, ovens, Spectrophotometer, and various analytical equipment such as pH and conductivity meters. 
 
 
 
Experience & Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent, with chemistry and algebra courses desired.

  • Some college chemistry or BS in a science or engineering field is desired.
  • Experience with electrocoat paint, resin synthesis experience, and paste formulation is also desired.

  • Computer skills for data entry are a necessity.
