  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety Management, Safety Sciences, Environmental Management or related discipline,
  • 5 -10 years of experience in EHS functions in a manufacturing facility.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is strongly preferred.  

Technical Skills

The EHS Manager must possess a broad knowledge of industrial and manufacturing operations and have working knowledge of key EHS business processes, including:

  • EHS budget management, cost control and hazard/risk analysis
  • Emergency response planning and hazardous materials management
  • Environmental regulations, including Title V Air Permitting, EPCRA reporting, etc.
  • Vendor and contractor safety management
  • Statistical analysis, KPIs, metrics management and EHS software systems
  • EHS training program design and implementation
  • Understanding of codes and standards:  ANSI, ACGIH, NFPA, ISO 14001, OSHAS 18001, etc.
  • Technical focus areas: industrial safety, occupational health, chemical safety, waste management, air permitting, storm water, electrical safety, fire protection, machine guarding, loss prevention, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, ventilation systems, workers compensation, and process safeguarding.

Functional Competencies include the ability to influence, communicate, plan and organize, resolve conflicts and promote a strong safety culture.  In addition, the manager must:

  • Be customer-focused. Must interact with a diverse workforce and work across multiple functions and businesses. 
  • Be a results driven leader that drives change, promotes teamwork and builds trust and respect; know how embed and sustain a positive safety culture
  • Foster continuous improvement and operational excellence
  • Be a critical thinker and problem solver.  Must have the ability to apply practical solutions to complex EHS issues
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills; ability to design and deliver presentations to management
  • Demonstrate flexibility and the willingness to work in a shared services environment
