As an EHS Specialist, you will be responsible for all aspects of plant environmental, health and safety ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies and procedures at PPG's Grand Haven facility. You will perform a wide range of tasks across environmental, health and safety to achieve compliance with the organizations EHS standards and with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively interact with employees and leadership to promote the PPG safety culture.
  • Champions and mentors the various employee Safety Committees throughout the facility and encourages employee participatio and engagement,
  • Manage and drive all environmental, health and safety compliance and management system functions and activities.
  • Lead all aspects of the EHS training program, including developing effective training materials, delivering instructor led training, training record management and new employee safety training.
  • Drive key safety initiatives including Job Safety Analysis, site safety risk assessments, risk mitigation, and Management of Change.
  • Support site management and provide coaching and review of incident investigations and corrective actions through 5 Why and other incident investigation methods.
  • Facilitate internal audits and self-assessments. Assist operations in addressing audit recommendations.
  • Assist with administration of workers’ compensation program to determine areas for increased training and emphasis on accident prevention.
  • Actively role model all company environmental, health and safety standards.


  • A Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or related Science.
  • 3+ years’ experience in the EHS field, preferred manufacturing or chemical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and consensus standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA, Workers’ Compensation), inspection procedures, audits, hazard reviews, incident prevention, incident investigation techniques, and safety and environmental education and training.
  • Must possess strong problem solving skills and be able to lead programs.
  • Strong communication, consulting, coaching and leadership skills; effective advisor to management and employees across a variety of issues.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers with knowledge of MS office products including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Expert in change management and building a safety culture through influence and engagement.
