As part of the Data Governance Function the Global Data Governance Manager will have responsibility for insuring that policies, procedures and standards for Data Governance are established, implemented and adhered to globally. This includes coaching, planning, and functional oversight of personnel, as well as a strong focus on developing relationships with both customers and suppliers throughout PPG globally. The Manager will contribute to the achievement of company objectives through effective and efficient management of Data Governance initiatives culminating in implementation and support of Data Governance functions.


Global Data Governance Manager supports the business strategy by participating in the development of the Data Governance strategy and seeing through its successful implementation.  This will be done by maximizing the utilization of assets which includes both Data, Technology and Personnel to drive effective business decisions.  The GDGM is also responsible for the successful delivery of the data aspects information systems projects, enhancements, as well as the overall operation of existing data processes within budget and performance requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicate and implement Global Data Governance strategy, policies, procedures and initiatives
  • Collaborate with business partners and stakeholders to ensure all data needs are met
  • Maintain and resolve data quality through proper monitoring, error detection, workflow and remediation
  • Deeply understand each domains data and how it interacts with the Global Data strategy
  • Help define and implement Data Governance that ensures the organizations data is appropriate, accurate, secure and reliable
  • Consult and advise SBUs, business partners and stakeholders on global and local Data Governance processes and strategy
  • Assist in defining the individual metadata and associated parameters for new and existing data items
  • Assists with determining Global Data Governance Standards based on best practices and considerations of recommendations and requests
  • Collaborate and communicate Global Data Governance Standards
  • Develop Data Governance requirements and business rules that may be enabled by MDM technical tools and workflows
  • Consult and advise SBUs and Functions on local Data Governance processes.


  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business (or Management), Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline is required; MBA highly desired
  • A minimum of  7 years of experience in Data Governance and Data Management best practices, process design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of the assigned business and Data Domain area's data, products and processes
  • Greater than 2 years of experience in personnel or project supervision
  • Experience in the strategic use of data in managing and growing a business
  • Previous experience in business process re-engineering or process improvement is desirable
  • Strong business knowledge and ability to express complex data concepts in terms that are understandable to the business
  • Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking and leadership with strong abilities in relationship management. Knowledge and experience in developing strategic business plans.
  • At least 2 years of experience in personnel or project supervision
  • Experienced in project management, execution of enterprise projects and managing financial resources to meet goals.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills; a demonstrated track record in new concept development for various projects and complex technical plans
  • Knowledge of company-wide businesses, regions, and products.
  • Experience in vendor negotiations is a plus.
  • Ability to travel 25-30% of the time.
