Process Control Automation Specialist

 

DESCRIPTION:

 

The future of PPG will be fully control automation based, automated recipes systems and optimization of the PCN will be gaining more and more importance and centrality in production processes. 

 

The new figure will allow PPG to keep the full know-how of our process control system automation in house and to be able to continuously operate in a more effective way, speeding up maintenance intervention timing and reducing shut down periods.

 

In particular, the new resource will constantly work to optimize process modifications, also speeding up industrializations process for new productions, working on all of the projects that require process control support.

 

RESPONSABILITIES:

 

  • Constantly work in cooperation with the EMEA Resins Team, as Process Control Custodian. Following our Process Control Standards and Practices Reference Documents (ICSP);
  • Create, modify, program and troubleshoot Process Control system hardware and software including PC’s, PLC’s, HMI’s, VFD’s, intelligent devices, programmable controllers;
  • Implementation, testing and startup of control strategies for batch applications in the resin and coatings industries;
  • Develop high quality, well tested and well documented process control system software and hardware to meet customer specifications in cooperation with the EMEA Resin Team; 
  • Performing prompt maintenance and process control system software modifications to correct processing problems or institute minor enhancements;
  • Monitoring contract compliance by eventual external service providers performing software modification activities;
  • Update drawings and configuration information of all software communications hardware (addresses, port settings, VLAN settings, etc.), to ensure timely diagnosis of problems and replacement;
  • Ensuring that adequate controls are built into systems and that operational controls exist to ensure the continued, reliable, and secure processing of information in their custody;
  • Being part of the system development project team, approving the completion of each major phase of development of the new system development projects;
  • Identify and stay up to date on new trends in the controls field that could benefit the organization, identifying and coordinating training initiatives for relevant staff;
  • Interprets principles, theories and concepts of process control engineering in order to solve problems and make design recommendations



REQUIRED PROFILE (m/f):

  • At least 3 years directly related work experience with automated controls in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with batch processing and a high level of interest with computerized process control highly desired.
  • Solid understanding of electrical circuits with the ability to design and problem solve, must be analytical and detail-oriented.
  • Good human relation skills (ability to adapt communication to technical and non-technical people).
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Good knowledge of English.

 

SKILLS:

 

The ideal candidate should have the following functional and technical skills:

 

·       Deep knowledge and familiarity with PLC, SCADA, HMI systems

·       Experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley or GE iFix

 

Deep knowledge of the following programming languages: 
  • Ladder 
  • Functional blocks
  • Sequential Function Chart (SFC)
  • iFix 
  • Visual Basic
