PPG is seeking a Production Manager in our Specialty Coatings and Materials Strategic Business Unit.  This position provides operational management for the entire production process for the business.  We are seeking a self-starter, strategic thinker that has demonstrated a history of continuous improvement and track record of delivering results.  To be successful in this role, the incumbent will contribute to the profitability of the business by overseeing each step of the production process to ensure customers’ needs are met.  This role will be based in our Lake Charles, LA plant.  Relocation benefits will be provided.  This position will require minimal travel.


Key Responsibilities

  • Production Analysis – Individual must understand how to summarize production data into recognizable trends and be able to develop new reporting techniques to allow Business Directors, Department Managers, and Sales Teams to be efficient in achieving growth targets.  Manager must also work closely with the Finance Manager to track monthly estimates and ensure production data/KPI’s and performance is properly tracked, analyzed, and action taken to improve.
  • Production Planning – Work directly with the Supply Chain Manager to develop production plans that allow for the business to meet sales and inventory plans.  This includes developing planning models to set priorities and easily identify issues.  Additionally, the Manager must fully understand continuous and batch processing and the different impacts business decisions could have on inventory.  Also works directly with the Engineering Manager to ensure all projects related to process equipment is executed and completed safely, on-time and on-budget.

  • Freight Management  - Role will be expected to understand the impact and cost of utilizing different freight modes (i.e. Rail, truck, Intermodal).  Additionally, Manager should have experience with contract management on the freight and warehouse side of a business.

  • Team Leadership and Influence:  Manager is a member of the management team reporting directly to the Plant Manager.  Incumbent will lead a team of 13 Production professionals within the business and will have 60 indirect hourly union production employees.  Critical aspect of this role is to effectively influence and engage employees and develop teams to drive continuous process improvement efforts and get results

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical / Mechanical preferred)
  • Minimum  7 years of experience as a Sr. Engineer, Project Engineer or Supervisor in a process manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience with process improvement, including debottlenecking chemical processes.  Must be able to demonstrate examples of tangible results.
  • Supervision experience in a union environment.
  • Strong analytical capabilities; experience using visual metrics to organize and run an operation.
  • Self-starter; takes initiative to identify and solve problems; works collaboratively with others in plant and with other functions (supply chain, sales, etc.).
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, background and spreadsheet/database skill set, DCS systems and SAP.
  • Ability to interact in an effective manner with all levels of employees, including executive management.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Certification preferred (Greenbelt/Blackbelt)
