PPG's Cleveland, Ohio, automotive coatings plant is PPG's largest manufacturing and technical center for automotive coatings in North America and is situated on a 42-acre site in the city's West Park area. The plant produces a full spectrum of coatings products for automotive original equipment manufacturers, including electrocoat, clearcoat, topcoat, waterborne and solvent-based products. In 1947, PPG purchased the facility from Forbes Varnish Company, which began operations there in 1907.


PPG is seeking a seasoned leader to ensure the timely manufacturing of our quality coatings and intermediates at the Cleveland Plant through the optimization of materials, manpower and production capacities to achieve plant operating and profit objectives. You will direct the manufacturing of all manufacturing products using established production processes, manpower and equipment to produce products that meet quality standards, delivery dates, and cost standards.


Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead/Direct/Support/Improve Plant Environmental, Health and Safety performance of facility
  • Lead productivity and efficiency initiatives to improve capacity and production capability
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing principles in improving departmental performance
  • Manage manufacturing costs of department to meet/exceed budgetary commitments
  • Manage solvent organization by creating a strong and effective work environment
  • Engage all levels of operation (floor operators, team coordinators, and team managers) to improve departmental excellence
  • Interact with Technical and Quality Control teams to improve product quality and consistency
  • Direct departmental 5S initiatives
  • Work with Cleveland Quality Control Department
  • BS/BA in Engineering or related degree.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Project Management experience preferred.
  • 8+ years industrial work experience in a manufacturing or technology delivery environment. Experience working in a chemical environment preferred. Experience working with industrial coatings highly preferred.
Success Factors/Functional Competencies:
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Experienced in record keeping and document control practices. Application of statistical techniques and software for data analysis and interpretation of data. Oracle or SAP knowledge preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills, technical writing skills, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate well across functions and cultures, customers and other third-party stakeholders.
  • Strong team leadership skills and ability to work via influence.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to drive continual improvement of production.
  • Proven track record of managing projects and driving change using data analytics.
  • Proven self-motivated driver to bring initiatives to closure.
  • Candidate should have a strong bent for action and an ability to create and implement action plans to drive performance improvement.
  • Candidate must demonstrate a high degree of attention to detail and managing complexity.
