Main Responsibilities:
 

This position is the primary contact with the hourly work force and communicates on a variety of policies, procedures, and work instructions from other departments and management personnel. 

 

The Supervisor receives work schedules daily from the Team Leader and the Operations Planning Department.  The Supervisor plans each day’s work based on available personnel, equipment, and materials.  These plans must be modified often based on changing priorities and/or availability of resources.  The first-line supervisor directs and controls the actual work process, which includes training and distributing work to employees, and monitoring the work process to ensure that work is completed efficiently, timely, and in a safe and healthful manner.

 

The Supervisor has frequent contact with (1) Quality Assurance – to ensure that product quality specifications are met; (2) Operations Planning – to ensure that raw materials are available and that customer demands for finished products are met; and (3) Maintenance – to ensure repair/maintenance of equipment and facilities are completed.  The Supervisor has frequent contact with other production departments to ensure the orderly and timely flow of production from the “raw material” stage to the ”finished product” stage.

 

The supervisor inputs information daily into database systems: WEMS, CAIR, etc.  Also, completes daily: batch tickets, production reports, safety reports, and general verbal and written communications regarding departmental and employee activities. 

 

The Supervisor is expected to work with his/her work team to affect changes in job methods, operational improvements, cost cutting measures, safety, etc.  Interaction and appropriate use of human relation skills with hourly workers and peers is one of the most critical areas of this job.  The supervisor must be actively involved in matters concerning employee safety, discipline, training, and counseling.   These are all areas where the supervisor has significant influence and can demonstrate creativity in motivating the work force to attain departmental and work team goals.

 
Accountabilities:
  • Maintains a safe and environmentally-compliant working environment through inspection, observa­tion, and enforcement of safety and environmental standards throughout the plant.
  • Directs the work force to ensure established KPI goals are met through the department in a cost effective and timely manner.
  • Trains, counsels, and motivates hourly employees.
  • Fosters good employee-relations through fair and equitable administration of the Labor Agreement.
  • Ensures that housekeeping standards are met in the department.
  • Ensures equal treatment of all employees under his/her direction in compliance with the Affirmative Action Program and EEO statutes and regulations.

Experience and Education:
  • High school diploma, or equivalent is required.
  • Two years’ experience in paint manufacturing or related factory work is required.
  • Technical/functional knowledge sufficient to solve problems arising out of the production and/or warehousing processes.
