Key Responsibilities:

The individual will lead the Pittsburgh Analytical organization with labs at the Coatings Innovation Center and the Monroeville Business/Technical Center.   The team consists of ~50 researchers focused on providing critical support to all PPG business units in the areas of new product development, customer support, competitive analysis, regulatory affairs and the value analysis process. 

 

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Enhancing a safety culture and ensuring compliance with all safety, EHS and security requirements.

  • Ensuring quality and timely results from high through-put labs in support of R&D, plant and field requests.
  • Initiating, directing and supporting the identification and implementation of novel and impactful analytical technologies and methods aligned with business unit needs to support new product development.
  • Generation of strategic new ideas for Pittsburgh Analytical and the Global Analytical Network to enhance capabilities and development of people.
  • Member of Global Analytical Network leadership team.  This will include acting as the Global Analytical Network America’s Coordinator, inclusive of Mexico and Brazil.  Ability to think strategically, work well and communicate with a diverse global organization.
  • Management of the CIC Site Quality program.  This includes ensuring all elements of the Quality program are achieved, including maintaining SOP/STM documents, managing annual internal audits and communication with site management.
  • Management of the Pittsburgh Analytical budget.  This will include working with finance in setting annual budget (for head count, expenses and capital budget) and then ensuring department operates within budget constraints.
Requires:
  • MS or PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Science or Chemical Engineering along with a demonstrated track record of relevant work and managerial experience with competing priorities.  At least 10-15 years of experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, to engage, motivate, and develop personnel in the Pittsburgh Analytical team.

  • Collaborate effectively and exhibit behaviors that include accepting and providing feedback and constructive criticism.
  • Effective communication (both written and oral) with direct reports and upper management.
  • Responsive and timely on all assignments with attention to detail
