This role is responsible for the development of new global product platforms using solvent-based liquid paint technologies for various segments of Industrial Coatings. This will encompass formula design, preparation and application of coatings, and testing these coatings against a wide range of customer specifications.


Key functions & accountabilities:

  • Plan and conduct experimental work such as the formulation, application and testing of coatings.

  • Analyze and interpret experimental results effectively to contribute to the development of new and improved product platforms.

  • Work closely with regional labs to understand their needs and how to incorporate these needs into new product platforms.

  • Work in conjunction with R&D and/or other functions located around the globe on the development of new product platforms.

  • Work toward technical milestones and deliver results against aggressive timelines. Coordinate related activities including synthesis, regulatory evaluation and application.

  • Maintain project information up to date and ensure timelines are realistic and adhered to.

  • Provide regular status updates to project team, regional lab and commercial teams.   

  • Maintain and grow an understanding of key customer lines related to Heavy Duty Equipment, Transportation, and General Finishes and use this information in developing robust coating platforms.

  • Develop new test methods that will help to accelerate the assessment of new coatings and simulate customer line conditions to increase the speed and success rate of product launches.

  • Initiate and foster scientific exchange with technical associates around the globe.

  • Build and maintain a network with commercial and technical teams in all regions to communicate progress on projects and understand future needs.

  • Maintain and communicate results through written and verbal summaries, coatings reports, test drill presentations and gate review updates.

  • Work safely, following all lab procedures and contribute to establish high safety standards.

  • Actively contribute ideas for innovative new coating systems and application processes.

Experience and Education
  • A BS degree in a technical field such as Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science or Chemical Engineering and 5+ years of demonstrated track record of developing solvent based coatings (for metal and non-metal application) and their commercialization.
  • Experience with experimental design (DOE) and complex problem solving are required. The candidate should have very good cross-cultural communication skills, a good understanding of resin synthesis and a strong desire to work in a dynamic global environment.
  •  Travel will be <10%
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
