This Technical Assistant (Entry) position is in the Automotive Product Development organization, reporting to a Group Leader.  The position includes work on one or more Innovation Team Projects in the Automotive Coatings field. Responsibilities include a wide variety of tasks that involve making, applying, and testing various paint formulas.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Will assist in the development of new Automotive products that meet customer specifications. 
  • Initially works under supervision, and within a 3-month time-frame when fully trained in lab equipment operation, conducts daily activities unsupervised.
  • Will regularly make paint samples, apply paint to test panels, and evaluate performance using numerous technical instruments and equipment.
  • Provides, interprets, and communicates practical technical information using standard formats and archiving methods.
  • Follows and ensures adherence to safety procedures, safe lab practices, and safety audits and record keeping. Reports all unsafe practices or situations.
  • Performs housekeeping and 5S duties to maintain a stocked, organized, safe and efficient lab and work environment.
Experience and Education:
  • HS Diploma or GED is required; college-level STEM is preferred.
  • 1+ years of previous lab experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of coatings is highly desired.
Functional and Technical Skills:
  • Ability to work independently or as a part of a team.  
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (both one-on-one and group settings)
  • Ability to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and product recipes/material identifications.
  • Multi-tasking -- Ability to work on multiple on-going projects at one time
  • Self-starter and self-motivated candidate will thrive in this position
  • Excellent teamwork, with the ability to interact and support other functional areas of the company (i.e. Analytical, Safety and other technical associates)
  • Conduct lab activities and document all lab work with high attention to detail, which includes the use of computers, such as Excel spreadsheets on a daily basis.
