The Teslin® R&D group at the PPG Monroeville Business and Technical Center has an immediate opening for a Research Chemist/Engineer to support the development of new Teslin® substrate technologies and applications.

 
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop new extruded thermoplastic products to support and grow sales of Teslin substrate. 
  • Develop coating formulations for thermoplastic substrates that provide unique product differentiation and performance enhancement.
  • Project management and leadership leading to successful new product launch in stage gate growth process.
  • Plan, conduct experiments and statistically analyze results.  Summarize results in reports and presentations to internal and external customers.
  • Engage customers to identify unmet needs and translate these into funded projects to expand the Teslin growth project pipeline.
  • Utilize open innovation to identify new technologies at industry experts, conferences and universities.
  • Work closely with Teslin segment managers to closely align R&D activities with business needs.
  • Plan activities of laboratory technicians.
  • Network across R&D and SBUs for collaborative new projects and personal development.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • BS in Chemistry or Material Science with advanced degree preferred.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with developing waterborne coating formulations.
  • Familiarity with thermoplastic extrusion is helpful.
  • Experience with experimental design and data analysis is helpful.
Skills
  • Willingness to work “hands-on” in a laboratory environment.
  • Having an innovative and creative mindset with the ability to take ideas and convert them into concepts for commercial products.
  • Possessing an attention to detail and ability to draw conclusions from experimental results.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate ideas/results to customers and in written reports and technical presentations.
