The Resin chemometrician must be able to deploy a broad range of real-time analyzers and multivariate analytical techniques in resin manufacturing processes. Applied spectroscopy is the primary focus; chemometrician model development is required, including calibration, validation, and maintenance.

 

The chemometrician must be capable of working independently and collaborating with multifunctional teams comprised of research scientists, information technologists, development engineers, process control engineers, technicians, and plant operators.

 

The ability to manage multiple projects and drive implementation is critical for this role.

 

This role must also maintain current knowledge of innovations in process analytical technology and lead their practical application at PPG as required.

Experience and Education
A minimum of 1–3 years’ professional experience as an analytical chemist; PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science.1–3 years’ professional experience as an analytical chemist;
 
Functional and Technical Skills
  • Expertise in spectroscopic characterization techniques, especially UV-Vis-NIR, mid-IR, far-IR, Raman, and/or excited-state luminescence (fluorescence/phosphorescence), and the various means for process integration (immersion probe, flow-cell, etc.; transmission, diffuse reflection, transflection, attenuated total reflection, etc.; steady-state or time-resolved acquisition).
  • Broad knowledge of orthogonal sensor technologies, including thermal, electrochemical, rheological, and optical is also preferred.
  • Proficiency in multivariate statistics, including PCA, PCR, PLS, etc., for both individual sensors and hyphenated sensors, is mandatory.
  • Leadership abilities and strong personal initiative are essential.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships, both internal and external.
  • Successful release of technology to manufacturing will include an ongoing training/education initiative.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills are required including the ability to write reports and standard operating procedures, give presentations, and participate in or lead informal discussions to both the scientific and business communities.
