PPG is currently in search of a Strategic Sourcing Specialist to join our Corporate Procurement department. This role will report to the Regional Procurement Manager USCA Commercial and Sundries & be based out of Cranberry Township PA.

Job Summary:

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist  is a highly visible role that requires frequent interaction with business leaders in the Architectural Coatings and Refinish SBU’s. He/she will hold the responsibility to be the market specialist for their category and is responsible for the competitive purchasing performance of the sundries based on the use of PPG strategic sourcing process.  The key value of this role is to create leverage beyond those that business units or territories could achieve as standalone entities. To deliver this, the role requires the ability to develop and execute step-change, cross-SBU, sourcing strategies and developing a close relationship with the USCA sundries team.


All activities should have a long-term strategy that encourages global sourcing, portfolio excellence and sales growth with 1yr, 3yr and 5 yr plans established. This person will be expected to participate as part of the global sourcing team to share best practices and find leverage opportunities across all regions.


The candidate should be curious and comfortable with challenging existing practices with the ability to analyze internal needs and market dynamics with the aim of creating competitive benchmarking and compelling arguments for change. A key success factor for this role will be the ability to engage teams of individuals who do not report to them. In such, they should demonstrate strong networking and influencing skills together with the ability to forge effective working relationships with both internal stakeholders and strategic suppliers.


Process orientated and with an attention to detail, the incumbent should ensure the operational effectiveness of the suppliers within their portfolio. They should anticipate supply issues and proactively take contracting actions to protect PPG. The incumbent should also institute appropriate service level agreements and drive continuous improvement of suppliers through structured performance management. The implementation of e-Auctioning for sundries in the category is expected to increase the effectiveness of the process.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver annual savings of at least $1.5MM across sundries managed categories in USCA. This should be done through the team and individual contribution, managing a visible pipeline and through ensuring the implementation of USCA projects.
  • Drive annual working capital improvement of at least $1MM for managed categories in USCA
  • Ensure the implementation of the Strategic Sourcing Process for at least 2 spend groups per category. manager with a goal to cover 100% of the portfolio over 3 years.  
  • Develop quarterly communication reviews for USCA Procurement, Architectural Coatings and Refinish management.
  • Maintain a cyclical process to ensure all contracts are tendered on a 3 year turnaround. The process should secure all bid documentation and ensure all approvals are compliant.
  • Reduce the number of suppliers in the managed categories in USCA by 20% every year until consolidated supplier base is achieved. This should involve management of change and collaboration with local stakeholders.
  • Implement service level scorecards for key vendors. These should be reviewed monthly and actions taken to ensure continuous improvement

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 5 years commercial experience; preferably in procurement or sales
  • Minimum of 2 years strategic sourcing
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Supply Chain
  • Knowledge of; a strategic sourcing process & dedicated spend
  • Previous assignment requiring challenge of specifications, execution models and the need for spend
  • Experience of establishing/monitoring performance agreements, contracts and resolving issues Organizationally savvy and able to balance priorities
  • Ability to influence change in process, business approach and execution strategy
  • Business acumen and ability to manage commercial relationships and negotiations
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Proactively seeks relationships.
  • Hands-on and results-orientated. Embraces all aspects of getting the job done.
  • Able to act autonomously and with resilience in a dynamic environment.
  • Global view. Engages within other regions and willing to travel 25-50% of the time.
