Experience and Education
  • HS Diploma/GED is required, with some college science classes preferred.
  • Some previous lab experience is preferred, but experience is not required.
  • Knowledge of coatings is highly desired.
 

Functional and Technical Skills

  • Ensures that proper safety attitudes, procedures and housekeeping are maintained in all work areas and conducts work in a manner that protects self, co-workers, equipment, environment and safety of the community.
  • Works independently with minimum supervision to operate, trouble shoot and perform minor repairs of weathering equipment in Accelerated Weathering Lab (AWL).
  • Performs tests to generate and record results to provide blind test result reports to customers both internal and external.  Detailed observations a must, specific defect terminology to be used.
  • Must be able to read and implement test methods as described in SAE’s, ASTM’s and customer test specifications.
  • Communicates results in a timely manner as well as communicating delays to sample owners.  Also main contact with service providers for equipment repairs.
  • Responsible for 5-S/Safety and Calibrations of the Accelerated Weathering Lab (AWL).
  • Processes panels going to atmospheric testing in Florida.  Verifying all required data present, assigning study id’s, printing labels, shipping and creating files for shipped studies.
  • Responsible for maintaining records for Florida studies recalled by teams, returning recalled panels to the Florida facility and recording completed returned Florida studies and maintaining the archive library.
  • Will be cross trained to assist in Corrosion Lab as needed.
  • Comfortable working with Color Portal, Excel and willing to learn rudimentary Access database skills.

  • Must be open and flexible and demonstrate both attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work with a variety of internal/external customers.
  • Ability to work independently or as a part of a team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (both one-on-one and group settings)
  • Ability to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals.
  • Multi-tasking -- Ability to work on multiple projects at one time.
  • Excellent teamwork, with the ability to interact and support other functional areas of the company (i.e. Corrosion Lab, Safety and other technical associates).
